WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?
Students will find themselves immersed in a watery world of sharks, rays, colorful tropical fish, and incredible hands-on learning experiences.

We offer a varied selection of programs designed to meet the curriculum standards set forth by state and national educators in the areas of Science, Math, Social Studies and English. We strive to ensure that the experiences provided will be an extension of what is learned in the classroom, and to provide students with a deeper understanding of why it is important to protect and conserve our ocean’s environment.

There are a number of classes that may be adapted to any age level.

SHARK-STRAVAGANZA

Shark-Stravaganza
What makes sharks different from all the other fish in the ocean? Students will explore shark diversity while uncovering their many unique adaptations.

RIPLEY'S OCEAN CHALLENGE

Ripley’s Ocean Challenge
Students team up during this “Jeopardy” style trivia game to test their knowledge of various science topics. The thrill of competition makes learning fun and exciting!

Preschool

WIGGLES JIGGLES & GIGGLES BENEATH THE SEA

Wiggles, Jiggles & Giggles Beneath the Sea
Dance like a dolphin and fly like a ray as we explore the wonderful world of sea creatures through movement and music. Students will learn how different underwater creatures make their way through the ocean.

EXPLORING SENSES

Exploring Senses
Through different activities, students will learn how various marine animals use their senses and will explore the idea of touch, sight, smell, taste and sounds.

Grades K-2

HABITAT SWEET HABITAT

Habitat Sweet Habitat
Students discover the characteristics of a habitat while exploring the sights and inhabitants of the Deep Sea, Coral Reef and Tropical Rainforest.

CORAL REEFS!

Coral Reefs!
Students will learn the basic structure of corals and will be introduced to the idea of symbiotic relationships. They will understand how fragile and important the coral reef ecosystem is and we will provide them with ways in which they can help support conservation efforts.

Grades 3-5

MARINE FOSSILS

Marine Fossils
Students will learn the importance of fossils and how scientists use them to gather information about the past. This hands on activity will awaken their inner paleontologist while they identify real marine fossils!

INVERTEBRATE INVESTIGATIONS

Invertebrate Investigations
Students will be able to identify the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates by observing different characteristic structures and adaptations. Students will also create their own invertebrate!

Grades 6-8

INTERCONNECTION

Interconnection
Students will discover the importance of the connection between different organisms and how energy flows in food webs. All students will participate in a game showcasing the effects of an unbalanced ecosystem on species populations.

BE FIN-TASTIC, RISE ABOVE THE PLASTIC

Be Fin-tastic, Rise Above Plastic
Students will understand the different types of plastics and will learn how they effect marine animals at various levels in the water column.

SQUID DISSECTION

Squid Dissection
There are more than 300 different types of squid that have been identified around the world. However, it is believed that many more exist. This program will teach students about squid and how they function. (additional fee applies)

CAREERS IN MARINE SCIENCE

Careers in Marine Science
Explore a variety of fascinating careers in Marine Science. From animal training to water chemistry students can search for their niche in this dynamic field and get their questions answered by a professional.

BEHIND THE SCENES TOURS

Behind the Scenes Tour
Learn what it takes to run a 1.4 million gallon Aquarium. Join one of our educators for a 30-45 minute tour that includes our animal care, food preparation and life support areas.

Squid Dissection
Explore the world of the Phylum Mollusca as we take a look at the unique survival adaptations in a hands-on squid dissection. BEACH CREATURES

Beach Creatures
Students will learn about the fascinating sea creatures they may encounter while walking along the beach. From sea stars to jellies, you will discover an exciting world of marine life through animal artifacts, or invite live sharks, conchs, crabs, and other critters to swim and crawl right in your students’ hands!

Enjoy an educational overnight at the Aquarium with your students!

Stingray Experience

Get up close and personal with the stingrays in Friendship Flats during this 20 minute hands-on learning experience!

  • Discounted pricing offered to school groups Monday through Friday, September through May.
  • Stingray Experience:
  • Includes 20 minutes in the water while a diver feeds the stingrays and provides more information on these gentle ocean dwellers
  • Stingray Experience Plus:
  • Includes everything from the Stingray Experience, plus additional time in the tank to snorkel and sight see in the deep end of Ray Bay

RATES

TEACHERS & CHAPERONES

  • Preschool (2-5 years old): 1 Free Adult per 5 Students
  • Grades K–12: 1 Free Adult per 10 Students
  • Any additional teachers and/or chaperones will pay regular admission fees. Tickets can be purchased upon arrival.
  • North and South Carolina Teachers ALWAYS free with school ID or paystub.
  • Teachers/Chaperones are required to stay with their group of students at all times!

PAYMENTS & CANCELLATIONS

  • Any changes to an Education Group reservation, including cancellations, must be received in writing by email or fax at 843-916-0752.
  • We accept one payment per group. It is the Education Group’s responsibility to collect all monies for admissions, educational programs and school lunches from students, teachers and chaperones.
  • We accept cash, credit cards and checks.
  • Pre-payment is generally required three business days prior to your arrival date.

LUNCHES

Forget the hassle of lugging around bagged lunches—let us make lunch easy for you and your students! We will prepare a cafeteria style meal for you and your students to enjoy away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds. You and your students can choose from the following options:

  • Slice Cheese Pizza, chips, cookies, and a drink
  • Ham & Cheese or Turkey & Cheese Sandwich, chips, cookies, and a drink
  • Chicken Nuggets (five pieces), chips, cookies, and a drink
  • Chips can be substituted for Applesauce
  • All Options: $5

Space for lunch must be reserved in advance. Please reserve as soon as possible; space is limited and cannot be guaranteed. Lunch orders are due in our office, in writing, one week prior to your arrival date. Any changes not made one week ahead of time will be your financial responsibility. If lunch orders are not received one week in advance, our chef reserves the right to choose for your group.

SOUVENIR GUIDEBOOKS

Purchase your Souvenir Guide Book for $2.00 each. The guide book is filled with a lot of useful and educational information.

Also visit the Cargo Hold, a wonderful gift shop filled with educational as well as fun souvenirs.

Chaperones are required to stay with their group of students while in the Cargo Hold.
