When did you know you wanted a career in marine biology?
I fell in love with the ocean during my first trip to Canada’s East Coast and I knew I wanted to pursue a career in Marine Biology after I spent an afternoon at the Ocean Sciences Centre in Logy Bay, Newfoundland. As a high school student I was already interested in science, but hearing about the research and exploring the labs at the Ocean Sciences Centre ultimately caught my interest and gave me the motivation to pursue a career in Marine Biology.
Favourite aquatic animal in the aquarium?
My favourite animal(s) in the aquarium would have to be the Spotted Jellyfish. Without hearts or brains, and seemingly alien bodies compared to ourselves, they still manage to thrive. Jelly keeping definitely has its challenges but there is nothing more rewarding than watching hard work pay off as small, delicate jellyfish grow larger and stronger each day.
Best part about working at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada?
The best part about my job at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada is working with a phenomenal team of aquarists who work tirelessly and passionately to provide the best for the animals in our care, while also having the opportunity to share our passion for the ocean, and its conservation, with the public.
